Celebrate Penny with free ice cream

As I mentioned in my January restaurant news article, The Penny Ice Creamery is expanding once again!  It just opened a new Pleasure Point location at the former site of Verve Coffee’s roastery, between the Verve café and Pink Godzilla. It’s celebrating on Tuesday, Feb. 19 with a ribbon cutting and grand opening party from 3-5 p.m. As a thank you for all of its community support, The Penny is giving out free ice cream during the party! According to co-owner Zach Davis, the new shop will follow the “…Penny formula of seven rotating seasonal flavors as well as the staples of Tahitian Vanilla Bean and Dark Chocolate Sorbet. Treats and daily specials will also grace the menu.”
Hours are 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily.

Shadowbrook Shakespeare Benefit

Shakespeare Santa Cruz benefits from sales at Capitola restaurant Shadowbrook on Tuesday, February 19 from 5-10 p.m.

Shadowbrook gives back to local non-profit organizations through a “Community Tuesday” series. For more than 15 years, the restaurant has been donating one-third of sales on selected Tuesday nights to local non-profits. Many nights are shared by two or more non-profits. On Tuesday, February 19, one of the benefiting organizations is Shakespeare Santa Cruz (SSC). Make your reservations at (831) 475-1511 or just show up. Make sure to tell your server you are there to support SSC, and the organization will receive 30% of your pre-tax sales. Whether you enjoy a drink in the Rock Room Lounge and Bar or partake of a full-on dinner in one of the dining areas, it all counts (everything except the “2-for-1” Tuesday Rock Room specials, that is)! SSC is a professional repertory company that performs at UC Santa Cruz. It has delighted audiences for more than 30 years; each summer it hosts a festival with three to four plays including ones by Shakespeare and ones by modern American playwrights.
