Get tickets soon for A Taste of Santa Cruz on Oct. 18

The 14th annual “A Taste of Santa Cruz,” at the MAH from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, features about 20 participating restaurants and food vendors plus several wineries and one brewery. This year, organizers switched the celebration from November to October and moved the time earlier, to take advantage of warmer weather. The event benefits first-time home buyers. Tickets are $50 in advance or $55 at the door if it’s not sold out.

The cost includes a commemorative glass plus tastings from all vendors. Participants will have the opportunity to sample lots of food and drinks including a new raw oyster bar on the third floor (the refreshments are spread across all three floors, and there’s a wine bar at the museum’s outdoor sculpture garden where attendees can purchase extra glasses of wine). Food vendors include Splash!, Five Star Catering, Aldo’s, Rosie McCann’s, Gordo Gustavo’s, Casa Nostra, East Side Eatery, The Jerk House, Hula’s Island Grill, Percy’s Pies, burger, Woodstock Pizza, H&H Fresh Fish Co., Shucked Raw Oyster Bar, Vinocruz, The Turkey Boat, Buttercup Cakes, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Marini’s Candies, and Back Nine Bar & Grill.

At the 2017 event, Splash! offered a tasty bite with house-smoked trout and tomato confit; Hula’s served up a delicious Hawaiian Ceviche (fresh whitefish cooked in citrus with coconut milk, chili, cilantro, and garlic), and Buttercup handed out their always-fantastic cupcakes.

Wineries include Alfaro Family Vineyard, Kissed by an Angel, Stockwell Cellars, Bargetto, Roudon Smith, 37th Parallel, DeVincenzi Cellars, McHenry Vineyard, and Loma Prieta. East Cliff Brewing Co. will be providing beer.

This year’s event is at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History for the second consecutive year, and Habit for Humanity Monterey Bay is a presenting partner for the second year in a row. There will be live and silent auctions. Live auction items include an eight-day unique Hawaii vacation that includes three different places to stay, a Jeep rental, restaurants, beach adventures and a massage. Silent auction items include wine tasting, and excellent tickets to the first 2019 pre-season game for the San Francisco 49ers.

All proceeds from the event benefit the grant assistance program of the Santa Cruz Association of Realtors Housing Foundation, which provides closing costs for first time, low-income home-buyers in Santa Cruz County. In 2017, the event sold out—for the first time ever!—and raised nearly $25,000. The Taste of Santa Cruz has raised almost $400,000 since its inception in 2004.

A Taste of Santa Cruz includes lots of bites from local restaurants

The 12th annual “A Taste of Santa Cruz,” at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk’s Cocoanut Grove Thursday, Nov. 10, features 30 restaurants, wineries, and breweries. The event runs from 5:30-9 p.m. and benefits first-time home buyers. Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door. Attendees sample food and drinks, and all proceeds from the event benefit the Santa Cruz Association of REALTORS Housing Foundation grant program that provides closing costs for first time, low-income home-buyers in Santa Cruz County. Several hundred people attend this event, raising approximately $30,000 annually. Over the years, more than $430,000 has been awarded to 200 families and individuals. Purchasing your tickets in advance is recommended.

 

Participating food providers include Home (the new restaurant from chef Brad Briske, in the former Main St. Garden location), The Hideout, Aldo’s, Café Hanna, Paradise Beach Grille, Hula’s, Burger, The Point, Little Owl Italian Kitchen, Ristorante Italiano, and Woodstock’s Pizza. Breweries include Santa Cruz Ale Works.

 

Other highlights include more than 100 silent and live auction items from local businesses and artisans. Prizes include a San Jose Giants package (10 general admission tickets plus a family pass for two adults & two kids); tickets to places like Gilroy Gardens and Winchester Mystery House; wine including bottles from Beauregard; and handcrafted wood pieces by artist Andy Orsini. There is also live music with the Jazz Birds & Friends.

The sixth annual “Taste of the Harbor” on Tuesday Sept 17 offers food from Santa Cruz restaurants and benefits O’Neill Sea Odyssey (OSO) through the Intero Foundation.

The event, hosted by Intero Real Estate Services at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor, is from 4:30 p.m. to sunset and includes live music and an auction. Advance reservations are $49 per person, or pay $55 at the door. It’s located at Intero Real Estate Services and the adjacent Harbor Beach, at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor.

Participating restaurants include several at the harbor – Café El Palomar, The Kind Grind, Aldo’s, Johnny’s Harborside, and The Crow’s Nest – plus others such as Zameen, Aunt LaLi’s Treats, and Hula’s. For more information see event web site.

OSO was founded in 1996 by surfer Jack O’Neill, who created a unique, hands-on program aboard a boat in the Monterey Bay (follow-up programs are held in an education center that’s on land). Central California kids in the 4th-6th grades participate and learn about topics including marine science and conservation. Since its launch, OSO has served more than 75,000 students so far with this free program (each group completes a community service project in order to participate).

Event parking at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor is $2. There is complimentary shuttle service available from the upper harbor, and a water taxi from the west harbor.

The fifth annual “Taste of the Harbor” on Tuesday September 11 offers food and wine from Santa Cruz restaurants and benefits O’Neill Sea Odyssey through the Intero Foundation.

The event, hosted by Intero Real Estate Services at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor, is from 4:30 p.m. to sunset and includes a raffle and live auction plus live music by The Original Substitutes. Advance reservations are $49 per person, or pay $55 at the door.
