San Francisco & Napa restaurant highlights for New Year’s Eve 2016

It’s almost New Year’s Eve 2016-2017! If you’re planning to dine in San Francisco or Napa, here are a few restaurant highlights for New Year’s Eve and a couple for New Year’s Day.

New Year’s Eve:

San Francisco

Top of the Mark at the InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco

Ring in the New Year with family, friends, and an unforgettable view at Top of the Mark! From 7:30 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., enjoy a special reception, entertainment, dinner, dancing, and a Champagne toast at midnight. Start your evening with champagne and hors d’oeuvres including assorted caviar, Tomales Bay & Rockefeller oysters, Spanish Serrano ham carving station, raw seafood selections, and more. Following the reception, guests will enjoy a seated five-course dinner with bottle of Moet & Chandon Imperial before dancing the night away and toasting the New Year with a glass of Moet & Chandon Rose. Rounding out the festivities is live entertainment by Mirage, whose exciting style ranges from Jazz to rock. Formal dress is required. Luce at the InterContinental San Francisco

Chef Daniel Corey of the Michelin-star Luce rings in the New Year with a five-course menu and optional wine pairing. Guests will enjoy live entertainment from 6pm – 8pm featuring Ricardo Scales and a jazz band will toast the New Year starting at 8pm. Dinner is $159 per person/$234 with wine pairing, excluding tax and gratuity. First seating is at 6pm and last seating is at 11:30pm. For reservations, visit OpenTable.

Presidio Social Club
On New Year’s Eve, Presidio Social Club will have a special a la carte dinner menu available, including specials like Foie Gras with Pineapple-Quince Marmalade and Quatre épices; Cannelloni with Crawfish Etouffee and Grilled Andouille Sausage; Black Bass with Potato-Celery Root Puree, Leek Confit with Bacon, and Black Truffle Sauce; and Filet Minon with Bone Marrow, Winter Hash, and Sauce Bordelaise. Presidio Social Club will be pouring from magnums of Charles Heidsieck all night long and a live band will be playing throughout the evening! Roka Akor 

Count down to the New Year at Roka Akor (801 Montgomery St.) while enjoying Japanese robata cuisine and prime-cut steaks, seafood and sashimi. This year, Executive Chef Roman Petry has put together a special dinner tasting menu that will highlight signature menu items prepared on the open-charcoal robata grill. Priced at $138 per person, the tasting menu will feature dishes such as King Crab Legs with chili lime butter; Robata Grilled Wagyu Fillet with grilled bone marrow and spicy sweet garlic soy; and a Sweet Corn with butter and soy. For dessert, a Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake with almond caramel and vanilla ice cream will conclude the tasting menu. Known for their high quality steaks, Roka Akor will offer an optional $50 Japanese Wagyu upgrade (requires a minimum of two people to order). Additionally, an optional wine pairing with the tasting menu is available for $68 per person as well as a limited a la carte menu. Roka Akor’s New Year’s Eve dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. until midnight. Please note that Roka Akor will be closed for lunch on New Year’s Eve. La Mar
Ring in 2017 on the waterfront at La Mar Cebichería Peruana! With views of the Bay’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks, the restaurant will offer the below three seatings throughout the night with colorful multi-course Peruvian feasts from Chef Victoriano Lopez. First Seating: 4:45-5:30pm, $89 3-course menu with signature Pisco greeting

Second Seating: 6:45-7:30pm, $89 3-course menu with signature Pisco greeting

Nico
Critically acclaimed, Michelin-starred French/Californian restaurant Nico will be offering a festive six-course prix-fixe menu for $90 on New Year’s Eve, with special truffle supplements offered with certain courses for $15/each. Beverage Director Maz Naba has also created special standard ($65) and premium ($85) beverage pairings options for those looking to indulge in the last hours of 2016. Foreign Cinema 

Join Foreign Cinema as they say farewell to 2016 with a nod to Old Hollywood. Ring in 2017 in true Foreign Cinema style with our celebratory prix fixe three course menu, with choice of options in each course, and a touch of vintage Hollywood glitz and glamour. $125.00 per person. Napa

FARM at Carneros

Featuring jazz tunes by the Dan Daniels Trio, FARM at Carneros invites guests to celebrate New Year’s Eve and choose from one of two seatings (5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.). Designed by Executive Chef Aaron Meneghelli, two indulgent tasting menus will highlight the end of the year’s best ingredients. The first seating will offer a 5-course menu ($195) with courses such as a Big-Eyed Tuna with seared foie gras and kumquats; and Free-Range Venison from Broken Arrow Ranch with rosemary and bay laurel sourced from the 28-acre property, among others. For an extravagant bite, guests can add two courses that include white truffles and caviar. The second seating, priced at $225, will highlight seven courses, including Hand Cut Pasta with carbonara and Italian white truffles; a lobster course, and more. A special caviar course can also be added to top off the last supper of 2016. Finally, wine pairings for each course are available as well as a special curated bottle list for New Year’s Eve. Presidio Social Club

Presidio Social Club will be open for brunch on New Year’s Day from 10 am—3 pm. Sleep off the previous night’s festivities before joining PSC for comfort foods like Brown Sugar Cinnamon Rolls, Challah French Toast, burgers, Macaroni & Cheese, and Brioche Beignets. Top of the Mark

Start off the New Year in style with a special brunch at Top of the Mark. From 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Chef Michael Wong presents a delicious feast offering something for everyone’s taste. Brunch features an omelet and waffle station, along with Rock Shrimp Eggs Benedict with choron sauce. Also available are small plates and antipastos featuring Smoked Salmon, Grilled Winter Vegetables with spiced buttermilk dressing and roasted pepper sauce, local and international artisanal cheeses, homemade soups, and a selection of salads. Mouthwatering entrees and roasts include Kurobuta Pork Loin with caramelized granny smith apple and calvados cream along with Bone-In Leg of Lamb with rosemary jus. Pianist Michael Athens will provide the musical entertainment for New Year’s Day guests. Top of the Mark’s New Year’s Day brunch is $109 per adult and $59 per child (ages 4 – 12). FARM at Carneros

On New Year’s Day, FARM at Carneros is serving a decadent brunch from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Guests can celebrate with bubbly, oysters, caviar, and generous family-style courses. Priced at $45 per person, dishes to indulge in include Sweet Corn Johnny Cake with 72-hour short rib, braised collard greens, and sunny-side egg; and Apple Crumble Coffee Cake with harvest apple compote and cinnamon cream, among others. FARM’s bar also serves a variety of bubbles, fresh juices, and handcrafted cocktails, such as the Basil Gin Fizz with Nolet’s Gin, basil, green chartreuse, and cream; or the Garden Cooler with Rain vodka, fresh fruit, cucumber and lime juice, among others.  Regular dinner service is from 5:30– 9:30 p.m.  Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 707-299-4880 or visiting farmatcarneros.com.

It’s almost New Year’s Eve 2015-2016! If you’re planning to dine in San Francisco, here are a few restaurant highlights.

Aatxe
Inspired by the New Year’s tradition of Spain in which twelve grapes are eaten at midnight in sequence with each bell strike, Aatxe is creating a special $95 menu of 12 offerings featuring grapes. Guests will be greeted by an introduction bite, followed by a set of three pintxos, five tapas such as Cana de Cabra with sultana membrillo, persimmon, grape-nuts, grape lees cured salmon with arbequina, celery root, kale, and Ajo Blanco Raw Scallops with pickled green grapes, jalapeño, and a plated entree before finishing with a palate cleaner and individual dessert. A16
This New Year’s Eve, A16 will ring in 2016 with truffles, lobster, and the requisite lentils for good fortune! With lovingly selected wine pairings from wine director/owner Shelley Lindgren, chef Rocky Maselli will prepare a multi-course feast promising traditional Southern Italian cuisine and a bountiful party including selections like Cioppino with lobster, clams, mussels, black cod, potato, fennel, and tomato and Baked Cannelloni with lamb sausage sugo, rapini, pecorino, and fried senise peppers. This special Southern Italian feast will be offered at $110 per person with truffle supplements and wine pairing options available. Luce at the InterContinental San Francisco
Chef Daniel Corey collaborates with Beverage Manager Marissa Payne on a festive menu to ring in the New Year!  Luce invites guest to build their own three-course menu with wine pairings. Highlights include baked potato mousse, crispy sweetbreads, onions cooked in port wine, truffle with grosjean, ‘Vigne Tzeriat,’ Pinot Noir, Vallée d’Aoste, Italy, 2012; Dungeness crab & cauliflower, winter citrus, crab vinaigrette paired with Edwards, Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley, Sonoma, California, 2013; filet of certified angus beef & glazed short rib, fermented black garlic, red Russian kale with Justin, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles, California, 2013; and duck breast, poached & roasted, chestnuts in honey, quince, local mushrooms with Paolo Scavino, Langhe, Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy, 2012. On New Year’s Day, a special brunch at Top of the Mark will go from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Chef Nenad Stefanovic will be serving up a variety of brunch items from an omelet and waffle station, small plates and antipastos featuring lobster medallions with spiced mango-ginger gazpacho, assorted maki sushi rolls, local and international cheeses, charcuterie with homemade pates, and a selection of salads. Stefanovic will prepare entrees and roasts including braised beef short rib with root vegetables and natural jis and stuffed free range chicken breast with pine nuts, spinach, goat cheese and red wine chicken jus. Pianist Michael Athens will provide the tunes for New Year’s Day guests. Brunch is $109 per adult and $59 per child (ages 4 – 12). Reservations are required at 415-616-6941.

Nob Hill Club at Intercontinental Mark Hopkins
This will be an evening of California wines and bites prepared by Chef Nenad Stefanovic. The four-course meal at Nob Hill Club at Intercontinental Mark Hopkins includes  lobster shooter; seared scallop with horseradish salsify crème, mizuna pesto, and rainbow carrot chipsl and filet mignon with smoked corttin de chavignol, pepper chimichurri, sweet potato gnocchi and baby romanesco; and poached rubarb, marscapone, hibiscus ice cream, and gin & tonic syrup. Throughout the evening guests can enjoy songs from the Al Marshall Trio. New Year’s Eve Dinner at Nob Hill Club is $79 per adult, $99 per adult with wine pairing and $49 per child (ages 4-12). Foreign Cinema
This New Year’s Eve, Foreign Cinema will be celebrating with a Belle Époque themed celebration with a champagne toast and a “Golden Age” a la carte dinner menu (priced at $120 per guest) from the 20th Century American Brasserie movement. Period attire is welcome, but not essential. Festivities begin at 5:30pm. Reservations are highly recommended at 415-648-7600.

Chef Thomas McNaughton of flour+water presents a festive five-course tasting menu for $95 per person highlighting the best of the season. Optional wine pairings begin at $70 per person. Spaces available online and subject to availability. Not seeing what you are looking for? Central Kitchen is another one of Chef Thomas McNaughton’s restaurants. There will be a six-course tasting menu created by Chef Thomas McNaughton for $125 per person and optional wine pairings beginning at $75 per person. Reservations can be made online or by calling 415-826-7004. As of Dec. 29 there were still reservations available. A sample tasting menu features dishes such as truffle canapés; California sturgeon with caviar, cauliflower, preserved lemon and seeded sourdough; bruleed onion consomme with leek,  wagon wheel and bone marrow brioche; Matsutaki mushroom and sunflower porridge with foie gras and huckleberry; beef with sunchoke fonduta and cabbage; and chocolate custard.

Presidio Social Club
The restaurant is offering a special a la carte dinner menu. Dishes at Presidio Social Club will include seafood items like caviar deviled eggs, a petite Maine lobster roll, and local sea urchin on toasted rye. A selection of first courses will include a Sonoma foie gras torchon and hearts of palm and winter grapefruit salad. Main courses will include a variety of sea, land, and vegetarian options, such as oven-roasted Alaskan true cod, roasted Sonoma lamb, and cardamom roasted butternut squash. SPQR
The restaurant serves progressive Italian cuisine in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood. SPQR will host a special New Year’s Eve dinner where chef Matthew Accarrino will prepare a six-course tasting menu for $160 with optional wine pairings from wine director Shelley Lindgren for $80. Roots & Rye opened in July. The gastropub is located at 3055 Olin Ave., Ste. 1005. Chef Chris Yeo, chef and owner at restaurants Straits and Sino on Santana Row, is also behind Roots & Rye.

For dinner on New Year’s Eve, Roots & Rye will be serving a four-course prix fixe $80 menu as well as the regular menu. They are doing a time capsule theme that night; it’s the 1930s. Sino Restaurant’s theme will be the 1960s and Straits will be doing the 80’s (these two restaurants won’t have prix fixe options; regular dinner items and specials will be available).

Roots & Rye serves lunch and dinner daily and weekend brunch—when dishes include candy bar waffles and duck confit hash—on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Current dinner dishes include Parmesan fries with truffle aioli, housemade pasta, day boat scallops with kohlrabi puree and buttered kohlrabi, and burrata salad (the latter two are also available at lunch). Current lunch-only items include grilled cheese sandwich with spicy tomato bisque.  The happy hour menu includes deviled eggs and oysters.

Roots & Rye prides itself on a wide whiskey selection. Approximately 20 choices include Angels Envy, Eagle rare 10-yr, and E.H. Taylor Bonded Rye. They have a large wine and beer selection including a dozen draft beers such as Ten Barrel Apocalypse Double IPA and St. Bernardus. Signature cocktails include Churchill Downs with bourbon, strawberry aquavit, lemon, green cardamom and fever tree ginger beer. The gastropub features live jazz every Wednesday and Thursday night from 8-11 p.m. and DJs every Friday and Saturday from 9pm-midnight.

A few restaurants operated by Lark Creek Restaurant Group are open on New Year’s Eve; highlights are below. Also, two more bits of news:

1) If you haven’t heard, a couple LCRG restaurants recently closed – Yankee Pier Larkspur and The Tavern at Lark Creek closed permanently effective Dec. 1, 2014, and Fish Story in Napa has closed but the restaurant will reopen in early spring with a ‘remodeled space and new concept’ (and possibly a new name)

• Pan-Seared Day Boat Scallops with celery root, boiled peanuts, black trumpet mushrooms, and port wine is one of the New Year’s Eve entrée choices from Chef Mark Dommen at One Market Restaurant (www.onemarket.com). The special New Year’s Eve prix fixe menu is $80/person from 6-7:30 p.m. and $130/person from 8:30-10 p.m. The menu features three courses and an amuse bouche. First course choices include hand-picked Dungeness crab (mango, avocado, citrus water) and Marin Sun Farm beef tartare (black truffle, quail egg, mitsuba). Dessert selections include Valrhona chocolate cake and California artisinal cheese plate with Redwood Hill Farm truffle tremor, Bohemian Creamery, Cowabunga, and more. Lark Creek Blue (www.larkcreekblue.com)  is open on New Year’s Eve. Guests can enjoy the regular, full a la carte menu created by Chef de Cuisine Chad Ferry. Entrees include Maine lobster spaghetti “Arrabiata” with a roasted half lobster, tomato, calabrese, chiles, and basil; grilled 12-ounce Angus ribeye with ratatouille, parsley potatoes, and warm caper vinaigrette; and grilled Hawaiian swordfish with fava beans, Israeli couscous, nectarine relish, and sauteed spinach. Cupola Pizzeria (www.cupolasf.com) is also open on New Year’s Eve. Guests can order from the regular, full a la carte menu. Small plates include warm, pulled-to-order mozzarella with lemon, brussels sprouts leaves, and olive oil; and lamb meatballs with spicy San Marzano tomato sauce, basil leaves, and pecorino. Soups include butternut squash with sage and brown butter. Pastas include lamb pappardelle, and pizzas include rapini (garlic, broccoli rabe, chili flakes, preserved lemon, Parmesan cream) and carne (housemade sausage, spicy calabrese salumi, soppresata, sweet onion). This New Year’s Eve, Restaurant 1833 will host a special dinner highlighting a menu from Chef Levi Mezick that have made this downtown Monterey hot spot a not-to-be-missed dining destination over the past three years. As the team rings in 2015, new Executive Chef Jason Franey will roll out a new menu in January, and this New Year’s Eve celebration gives guests a final chance to savor favorites from Levi Mezick. The evening will consist of two seatings: the first from 6-7 p.m. and the second from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Guests at the first seating will enjoy a five-course meal for $95 per person with menu highlights including Hamachi with blood orange, cumin, avocado and pickled jalapeno; and Bacon Wrapped Sturgeon with black lentils, brown butter and spinach. Dessert is Mezick’s signature Booker’s Butter Bourbon Pudding with Satsuma mandarin and blood orange caramel. Guests at the second seating will enjoy a seven course meal for $125 per person with a menu offering all five courses served in the first seating plus additional offerings including Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast with salsify, basil and lemon butter and Pineapple Granita with coconut tapioca and passion fruit. Alvarado Street Brewery / “Bubbles & Brews:” four-course dinner with Alvarado Street beer plus champagne from Caraccioli Cellars, $95 plus tax and gratuity, 7 p.m. / 426 Alvarado St., Monterey, 831-655-2337.
Dinner attendees will enjoy Brut Cuvée & Brut Rosé from Caraccioli Cellars, as well as two of Alvarado Street’s inaugural barrel aged beer releases: a passionfruit Lambic, and a Belgian Barley wine with tart red cherries. Anton & Michel Restaurant / Dinner for Two prepared tableside — $140 for three courses; several specials available a la carte / Mission Street between Ocean & 7th., Carmel, 831-624-2406.
The tableside Dinner for Two includes Caesar salad, rack of lamb, and choice of flambée dessert. A la carte appetizers include Dungeness crab ravioli with sundried tomatoes and Meyer lemon cream sauce. entrees include Maple Leaf duck breast with sundried cherry sauce, grilled asparagus, roasted peppers, and sweet potato-green onion mash, and herb-seared Pacific salmon.

The 5:30-6:30 seatings offer a four-course menu, while the 8:30-9:30 seatings feature a six-course menu.

Details: A16 is ringing in 2015 with a festive New Year’s Eve tasting menu from Executive Chef Rocky Maselli and traditional wine pairing options from Wine Director/Co-Owner Shelley Lindgren. The special menu embodies the flavor of Southern Italy with dishes like Maccaronara with liberty duck sugo, black trumpet mushrooms and duck fat bread crumbs and Roasted Devil’s Gulch Rabbit Saddle wrapped in pancetta, lentils, sage and rosemary. Rose Pistola
On Wednesday, December 31st plan to celebrate the end of 2014 and ring in 2015 with Rose Pistola in North Beach. Music is by The Cosmo Alleycats, who will be playing vintage jazz/dance music with a dynamic, but soulful delivery from 7:00 until 9:45pm; $65.00 per person. Luce at the InterContinental San Francisco
Guests are invited to ring in the New Year with dinner prepared by a Michelin-star chef and live entertainment throughout the evening at Luce at the InterContinental San Francisco. Chef Daniel Corey presents a multi-course menu of seasonal, California fare with dish highlights including Tartare of Kona Kampachi, avocado, smoked trout roe, and crème fraiche; Dungeness Crab with aged Carnaroli rice, Marcona almond milk, and espelette; Butter Poached Maine Lobster with fennel, apple, and onion; and Roasted Breast of Squab, leg confit, chestnut, and orange marmalade.  Live entertainment by jazz group The Steve Carter Trio kicks off at 8:30pm and rings in the New Year until 12:30am. This New Year’s Eve, Foreign Cinema will be celebrating with a “Purple Rain” inspired evening. Relive the ‘80s while rocking into 2015 with a four course celebratory menu, priced at $100.00 per guest, excluding wine, tax, and gratuity. Festivities begin at 5:30pm. Reservations are highly recommended.

Farallon
Ring in 2015 under the sea with Farallon’s New Year’s Eve six-course tasting menus from Executive Chef Ryan Simas. Guests will have an option between a traditional tasting menu, offered at $120, or a special Caviar and Truffle menu, offered at $155. Farallon’s decadent seafood fare fused with the whimsically aquatic décor offer the perfect way to celebrate the New Year. Guests can enjoy dishes such as Broiled Maine Lobster Tail with cauliflower mousseline, celery root, apple salad and lemon aioli, and Seared Georges Bank Diver Scallop with warm potato, leek latke, mache and caviar fondue and a limited à la carte menu will also be available. Step back in time to a different era at CLIFT’s early 1900s themed New Year’s Eve party. The hotel will be celebrating its 100th anniversary at the turn of midnight with a black tie optional red carpet event from 8pm-2am on December 31, 2014. There will be four areas of festivities including a special musical performance by Donovan, a Billie Holiday tribute, a Ziegfeld Follies show, and a silent film showcase. The festivities will take over the Redwood Room and the first floor of the hotel. Guests can also enjoy a champagne reception with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a glass of bubbles from 8-9pm. The restaurant will be offering a five course tasting menu for $95.00 per person, excluding tax and gratuity with a $70.00 optional wine pairing. Sample menu dishes include Dungeness Crab with shrimp, n’duja and Brussels Sprouts, Chestnut Agnolotti  with pheasant, sunchokes, and speck, and Mixed Roast of Beef with creamed nettles, beets and blue cheese.

Spend the last evening of 2014 at central kitchen. The restaurant will be offering a five course tasting menu for $125 per person, excluding tax and gratuity with a $75 optional wine pairing. Sample menu dishes include Dungeness Crab with parsley root, beet, and vanilla, Matsutake Mushroom with sunchoke, black, lentil, and smoked egg yolk, and Dry Aged Rib Eye with oxtail, date, and cauliflower.

Presidio Social Club
If you’re looking to skip a formal prix-fixe dinner, ring in 2015 at Presidio Social Club, where they’ll be offering a variety of a la carte dishes in addition to a seafood bar with items such as Oysters on the Half Shell, Cracked Dungeness Crab Legs, and Scallop Ceviche. Other tasty options include an Avocado & Winter Citrus Salad, Brown Butter Roasted Maine Lobster Medallions with Meyer Lemon Mascarpone Risotto, and a Truffle Roasted Chicken. A live band will provide entertainment all night long.

SPQR
Modest and inviting, SPQR serves progressive Italian cuisine in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood. Under the direction of Executive Chef Matthew Accarrino, SPQR has been recognized with a Michelin star in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 San Francisco guides. On Wednesday, December 31, SPQR will host a special New Year’s Eve dinner where Accarrino will prepare a nine-course tasting menu for $160 with optional wine pairings from Wine Director Shelley Lindgren for $80. Soif
Soif is serving a $75 prix fixe multi-course dinner with a $35 optional wine pairing supplement. Dinner starts with an amuse bouche trio: roasted beet, ricotta, & maple-ginger pecans; Kumamoto oyster with apple & cured Meyer lemon; shrimp shumai with mushroom kombu. Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the oceanfront Cocoanut Grove from 7 p.m. – 1 a.m. Tickets for dinner and the dance are $84; the dance only is $41 in advance and $46 at the door. Entertainment will be provided by The Alison Sharino Band, The Surfing Magician, and Innisfree Celtic Music. The dinner buffet is from Crown Café Catering and includes a glass of sparkling cider or champagne. The Lexington House
The Lexington House just opened in September 2013, and it’s already gained many fans. The restaurant’s menu features products from local, organic, and sustainable sources skillfully prepared by Chef Philippe Breneman (formerly of Dio Deka and Moana Restaurant and Hotel Group, as well as a stint at Manresa).  For its first New Year’s Eve celebration, The Lexington House is offering a five-course $85 menu featuring “the best of the season.” Beginning with a Cauliflower Veloute and a Caviar Cracker, guests will have options including Diver Scallops with parsnips and brown butter; Fettuccine with uni butter and Dungeness crab; Mills Farro with wild mushroom and a slow cooked egg; Rendered Lamb Tenderloin with golden turnips and hedgehog mushrooms, and Textures of Chocolate and Maple Truffles. Dio Deka
Award-winning restaurant Dio Deka is offering its annual New Year’s Eve party with two seatings: the first from 6-8:30 p.m. ($95) and the second from 8:30 p.m. to past midnight ($125).  Each features a four-course menu with Greek specialties from Chef Jeff Fitzgerald such as Keftethakia lamb meatballs (I highly recommend these!), Octapothi Scharas – mesquite-grilled octopus, Avgolemono – classic egg-lemon soup with orzo; Lavraki – mesquite-grilled Mediterranean Branzino; Paithakia – Mesquite-grilled double-cut lamb chops; and Brizola – mesquite-grilled prime bone in rib eye. The Aptos restaurant will offer a special New Year’s Eve buffet dinner for $99 per person plus tax (tip included). For the special event, doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner is from 7 – 9 p.m., and dancing occurs from 8:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. with live music by Mike Hadley and the Groove and a midnight champagne toast. On New Year’s Day, Sanderlings is serving a brunch buffet (includes coffee or tea) for $19.95 (adults) or $10.95 (kids 2-12). Aquarius

Located at the Santa Cruz Dream Inn overlooking the Wharf, Aquarius is serving two meals on New Year’s Eve: brunch (7am-3pm) and dinner (5:30-10 p.m.). Also, a bar menu will be served from 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and the lounge is open for cocktails until 12:30 a.m. Aquarius has two dinner seatings for New Year’s Eve, one starting at 5 – 6 :30 p.m. and one starting at 9 p.m. First seating is $65 for three courses; second is $85 for four courses. The second seating includes a live DJ and vocalist Tammi Brown. Food selections include two mushroom veloute, slow poached lobster, grilled Colorado lamb loin, and chocolate cake with toasted pistachios, caramel sauce, and raspberries. This restaurant is offering a special three-course prixe fixe menu for New Year’s Eve; the cost is $55. Appetizer choices include mushroom tart with arugula and balsamic reduction, and Dungeness crab with avocado and greens. Entrée choices include seafood stew with fennel, croutons and aioli, and roasted chicken with gnocchi and broccolini. Johnny’s Harborside

On New Year’s Eve, Johnny’s is serving a prix fixe, three-course dinner for $38 that includes a glass of champagne. Call 479-3430 for reservations; the first seating is 5 p.m. and the last is 9:30 p.m. Customers choose one selection from each course. Appetizer options include fresh local crab bisque and baby spinach & goat cheese salad with medjool dates and roasted beets. Entrée choices include crab-stuffed petrale sole and pepper-crusted flatiron steak. Dessert selections include a trio of mousse parfaits. You can also order a la carte items if you sit at the bar. On New Year’s Eve during the day, the restaurant is offering its regular menu from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. On New Year’s Day, Johnny’s opens at 10 a.m. for brunch which is served until 2, followed by regular dinner service which ends at 9 p.m.

Solaire at Hotel Paradox

On New Year’s Eve Solaire is open from 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. A four-course tasting menu ($75) is available for dinner; reservations start at 8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. and the table is then yours for the evening. The $75 per person includes party favors, live entertainment, dancing, and a champagne toast at midnight. On New Year’s Day Solaire is serving brunch from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The restaurant will have an appetizer, salad, and dessert buffet with a la carte entrée selections plus unlimited sparkling wine or mimosas. Appetizers include fruit, cheese, antipasto, and vegetable crudite. Entrée choices include eggs benedict made with Glaum eggs (vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions are available), the Paradox burger (includes brioche bun and house ground beef), mussels with pernod, white wine, leeks, fennel, butter and herbs. The Santana Row restaurant is open on New Year’s Eve. It’s offering limited a la carte choices from its regular menu, plus a special $71.50 prix fixe four-course dinner (the prix fixe selections are also available a la carte). First course choices include trio of seafood crudo (yuzu and kampachi tartare, scallop ceviche, redfish escabeche) and prime beef tenderloin tartare. Second course choices include black truffle gnocchi, and third course choices include chicory-crusted loin of venison. Dessert selections include eggnog crème brulee with butter rum cookies.
