There is free admission. To sample chili, attendees purchase $9 \u201ctasting kits\u201d (includes 5 taste tickets, spoon, cup, and People&#8217;s Choice voting ballot). A portion of sales will benefit Jacob\u2019s Heart Children\u2019s Cancer Support Services.<\/p>\n<p>Competing restaurants include Aquarius, Caf\u00e9 Ella, Caf\u00e9 Sparrow, Mackenzie Bar &amp; Grill, Parish Publick House, Seabright Brewery, and Solaire Restaurant &amp; Bar.<\/p>\n<p>The competition features four categories:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Amateur Red<br \/>\n\u2022 Amateur Vegetarian Red<br \/>\n\u2022 Professional Red<br \/>\n\u2022 Professional Vegetarian Red<\/p>\n<p>Awards (including plaques and cash) will be given to best Chili in each category, People&#8217;s Choice, Most Tasted, and Most Original Booth.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the schedule:<\/p>\n<p>9:00-10:00am Preparation period (No heat)<br \/>\n10:00am-1:00pm Cooking period (3 hours)<br \/>\n10:00am Tasting kits go on sale<br \/>\n1:00pm Public tasting begins<br \/>\n4:00pm Winners announced in beach amphitheater<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winners included chefs from Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing (Emily Thomas won Best Professional Vegetarian) and Parish Publick House (Zach Willis won Best Professional Red).<\/p>\n<p>Follow me on Twitter <a href=\"www.twitter.com\/santacruzfoodie\">@santacruzfoodie<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many restaurants, professional chefs, and amateur chefs are participating in the fourth annual Chili Cook-Off at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.
