This one sounds intriguing: The November incarnation of monthly speaker series \u201cEvent Santa Cruz\u201d has an edible theme.\u00a0 On Nov. 20, 2013, attendees will hear seven special guests who make a difference while feeding folks in Santa Cruz and elsewhere (some literally feeding, some metaphorically).<\/p>\n<p>The scheduled speakers are:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Hoffman Family \u2013 Owners of Hoffman\u2019s Bistro and Patisserie<br \/>\n\u2022 Aaron Hinde \u2013 President LifeAID Beverage Company, Inc.<br \/>\n\u2022 Scott Roseman \u2013 Founder and President of New Leaf Community Markets<br \/>\n\u2022 Rachel Otis \u2013 Director Child Nutrition at Live Oak School District<br \/>\n\u2022 Patrice Keet &amp; Rhiannon Crain \u2013 Members of the Board of Directors for The Santa Cruz Children\u2019s Museum of Discovery<br \/>\n\u2022 Ian Bell \u2013 Local Singer\/ Songwriter<br \/>\nThere are seats for 165 people for the general event and there is a unique \u201cdowntown food walk\u201d beforehand that\u2019s limited to the first 30 people that sign up. Those 30 will visit four local venues\u2014including The Truck Stop at the downtown farmers market\u2014to sample food. Tickets are the same price ($10) whether or not you\u2019re going on the food walk.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Swinnerton started Event Santa Cruz to help tell the stories of local businesses and the hard-working people that make these businesses run. This is the first \u201cthemed\u201d Event Santa Cruz night. \u201cI wanted to showcase entrepreneurs that love what they do, have a passion for good quality healthy food and make a living doing so,\u201d says Swinnerton.<\/p>\n<p>While some of the speakers are more well known in the community, like Roseman, some are less visible\u2014and they all have interesting insights to share. \u201cRachel Otis is transforming how our children are being fed school lunches,\u201d adds Swinnerton. When she told me that they were serving bok choy wraps and other health food to the kids I knew I wanted her at the Event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked how Keet, Crain, and Bell fit the edible theme, Swinnerton responded with the following \u201cKeet and Crain are going to show how we can be creative with food and more importantly how children can be creative with food.\u201d As for Bell, Swinnerton mentioned the fact that after a good meal, it\u2019s \u201cnice to sit back and relax and be entertained by an amazing performer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first Event Santa Cruz was September 18, 2013.
