Organic ice cream from Santa Cruz's Penny Ice Creamery<\/p><\/div>\n

Organic Santa Cruz ice cream shop Penny Ice Creamery has partnered with a few community venues, the Nickelodeon and Del Mar movie theaters and UC Santa Cruz, to give out free treats.<\/p>\n

First, the movie and ice cream promotion: if you see a film at the Nickelodeon or Del Mar movie theaters<\/a> (Nickelodeon is 210 Lincoln St., Del Mar is 1124 Pacific Ave.), save your ticket stub and present it to Penny for a \u201cbuy one scoop, get 2nd scoop free\u201d offer. It’s only valid if you go the ice cream shop on the same day you see a film at one of the two theaters. This very sweet offer is good for the foreseeable future (no promotion end date has been announced).<\/p>\n

Next, the UCSC promotion: this weekend (April 30 & May 1) is the 2011 Spring Plant Sale hosted by the UCSC Farm & Garden. If you go to the sale on Saturday, you get to taste Penny Ice Creamery limited-edition popsicles, available for ONE DAY ONLY and made especially for the sale with ingredients from the campus Farm & Garden.<\/p>\n

Also, El Salchichero<\/a> (see article about the charcuterie business<\/a>) and Penny are offering a 10% discount at their retail stores, and Companion Bakers<\/a> is offering a 10% discount at their farmers market stands during the week following the plant sale when you present your receipt from the sale. The plant sale offers a huge range of organically grown plants for the garden and landscape, including flower, herb, and vegetable starts, perennials, and grasses. It\u2019s from 10am-3pm Saturday (with a 9am entrance for members of Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden) and 10am-2pm Sunday. The location: Barn Theater, corner of Bay & High Streets at the base of the UCSC campus.
