2012 Hop N’ Barley Fest at Skypark in Scotts Valley

On June 29, Sky Park in Scotts Valley hosts the 4th annual Hop N’ Barley beer and bbq festival with lots of beer selections plus food and kids’ activities. Hop N’ Barley benefits the non-profit Community Housing Land Trust of Santa Cruz County. The organization is “…dedicated to providing a broad range of housing opportunities, with emphasis on ownership, that will remain affordable in perpetuity to very low, low and moderate-income residents of Santa Cruz County.”

There are approximately 60 breweries participating, including local Santa Cruz Ale Works, Discretion Brewing, Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing, Corralitos Brewing, and Seabright Brewery. Others include Sierra Nevada, Big Sky Brewing Co., and Alaskan Brewing Co. Last year’s event drew 4,500 people!

There will be a kids area, free parking, a skate park, and bands including The Harmed Brothers (11:30 a.m.), Extra Large, Wooster (4 p.m.), and The Joint Chiefs performing live music on two stages. Also, it’s a dog-friendly event. Food will be available to purchase from various restaurants and vendors. Festival organizers recommend bringing hats and sunscreen as there is not a lot of shade at the event.

Gates open at 10 a.m. for “early wristbanders,” and tasting is noon to 5 p.m. For those drinking beer, admission is $39 in advance/$45 at the door and includes a souvenir glass. The event has free admission for kids, designated drivers, and anyone else not drinking alcohol. Buy tickets online.

Skypark is located at 361 Kings Village Rd, Scotts Valley, 95066
